French Cake


1 cup sugar                         
3 cups sifted cake flour
1 egg                                     
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cocoa                        
1 Tbsp. melted grape jelly
2 tsps. cinnamon                
Nuts
2 cups sour milk or cream       
Beat sugar and eggs together until thick and lemon   coloured, and then add cocoa, cinnamon, and sour milk or cream slowly. Add this mixture to the sifted flour quickly taking care more over mix. Add soda, dissolved in jelly. Pour into a waxed-paper lined pan and scatter nuts over the top. Bake in a 350 F oven about 50 minutes. Makes a cake 10 x 10 inches.
